Let no one despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

About
It was my generation in the sixties which was responsible for our country’s most recent American revolution, defying everything traditional, moral, and wholesome. We owe amends to our children for removing the landmarks (Prov. 22:28). A frightening monster has emerged. Our nation has now come to accept rude and brazen behavior and “macho” independence—from our women!

Our culture has not been providing the answers for the deep heart-cry of young women; or, if it does, they are often terribly wrong answers. The burning cry of my heart when I was growing up was, “Won’t somebody teach me how to live?” After ten years in the international modeling circuit, I was, tragically, even more mixed-up, insecure, immodest, and offensive. Then I found Jesus—a radical, life-changing encounter with TRUTH! I began to find the answers which had once seemed shrouded in mystery, like pieces of a puzzle, or relics from an irrelevant time in history. These Scriptural principles, wrapped in the real and incredible love of God, have given me an appetite for true beauty—as a bride who wants to be beautiful to please her Bridegroom! God is the Creator of beauty, and you and I were created to express His beauty--just for Him! How fantastic!

Many years after being saved by Jesus, I am still being transformed by the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit. The Bible says to worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness (Ps. 96:9). This is not simply a pious religious posture, dress code, or set of restrictions. On the contrary, it is an exuberant “YES!” to the calling of our true Love! In the process of a deepening relationship with a Holy God, we will be more and more expressive of His beauty. The feminine disciplines which I teach are not meant to build US up! They should become good and natural habits, but essentially we must strive to become as empty of ourselves as possible, so that we can be simply an attractive “container” for Him. This beautiful Life comes through relationship with Jesus!

In the classic, The Christian’s Secret of a Happy Life, author Hannah Whitall Smith says this about the consecrated life:
“Then as to the habits of life: we always see such Christians sooner or later laying aside
thoughts of self, and becoming full of consideration for others; they dress and live in
simple, healthful ways; they renounce self-indulgent habits, and surrender all purely
fleshly gratifications. Some helpful work for others is taken up, and useless occupations
are dropped out of the life. God’s glory and the welfare of His creatures become the
absorbing delight of the soul. The voice is dedicated to Him, to be used in singing His
praises. The purse is placed at His disposal. The pen is dedicated to write for Him, the
lips to speak for Him, the hands and the feet to do His bidding. Year after year such
Christians are seen to grow more unworldly, more serene, more heavenly-minded, more
transformed, more like Christ, until even their faces express so much of the beautiful
inward life, that all who look at them cannot but take knowledge of them that they live
with Jesus, and are abiding in Him.”

Isn’t this a liberating goal? We Christians are in the process of being conformed to His image. How wonderful! One of my joys in life is helping to awaken in young women the expression of true beauty. Our modern culture, with its profane and ignorant treatment of love, sex, and women, has made purity a rare virtue we must protect like a fragile butterfly. Sisters, please learn to delight in the design of your Creator for you. The feminine beauty He has deposited in you is a priceless gift. You can’t buy it over a counter; it’s your Divine essence, whether dormant or in full bloom! All of the slick merchandising of this consumer culture competes with inferior substitutes. Let’s not be led by fads or fashion, but set our sight Higher! I am deeply committed to helping you to realize your full potential as daughters of the King!

Blessings,
Lesa Powsey
